OK, fair warning, this could be a long post!
From the beginning, while I was pregnant with Wilson I was told I had Gestational Diabetes which wasn't a big deal. I checked my blood sugars 4 times a day and it was pretty low maintenance. At about 36 weeks they decided I needed a low dose of medication to help with that. A common side effect of gestational diabetes is that your baby could be larger. At about 32-34 weeks they decided I needed to start doing Non-Stress Tests (NSTs) twice a week for the baby, which was where they would hook me up to a microphone and a monitor and they would measure his heart beats and tell how he was doing with contractions. They would also check how much fluid he had once a week. By the last month I felt like I lived at the hospital between weekly Dr check ups and 2 NSTs a week. They realized his fluid was low by about week 37 and were debating on inducing me on the 3rd of July. Luckily, we got to keep Wilson in there a little longer because Jules happened to be going into labor at the same time! Dean was born on July 5th!
My doctor decided that if everything looked ok by the 15th I would be induced that night. It was a week early due to the potential Wilson could be large.
This was my last bump picture before we left to the hospital.
After getting to the hospital on the 15th at 8pm they got me started on some water bag thing (it's a technical term) that was to help me dilate to a 3-4. It had to stay in for 12 hours and was horribly uncomfortable/painful. So by 10-12 pm I got my epidural to help with the pain. And then the waiting began.
We watched shows and got some rest that night.
Here is some more waiting and waiting. The 16th was a lot of sitting around and trying to get my body going.
The night of the 16th was very eventful. They finally decided to give me pitocin and my body reacted too good to that, they had to turn it down constantly because my contractions were too strong. At about midnight or so, we were all resting, Brad was finally getting some sleep and my mom was watching a show with me, when all the sudden a bunch of nurses came in because the babies heart rate had dropped, they started to turn me on my side, then my other side, then on my hands and knees, (which my knees were jello and I was slipping and trying not to fall on my tummy) they put me on oxygen, and when none of that worked they unhooked me from the pitocin and all the monitors and gave me a shot to stop the contractions. This all happened within minutes and was very scary.
They then took me in for an emergency C-Section. At this point I was very scared and was bawling under my oxygen mask. I was being wheeled from my room on my hands and knees having no idea how this all happened.
They got me to the OR and numbed me from the bottom of my chest down and we waited.... Procedure is to allow the baby 10 minutes with no medicine to try and get it's heart rate back to normal. I can't say enough how scared and confused I was, I didn't know where Brad was, I hadn't mentally prepared for a C-Section. Luckily after the LONGEST 10 minutes of my life the doctors tell me baby is doing great and I can go back to my room.
After all the excitement Brad, Mom, and I get some much needed sleep. Sometime in the morning I realize my epidural had wore completely off and I was feel everything. We got the anesthesiologist in there and he got me back comfortable but unfortunately had to come back almost every hour until the baby came to keep it where I needed it to be! (Shout out to those brave enough to do without!)
FINALLY on the 17th sometime in the morning I was dilated to a 10 and was ready to start pushing! Pushing wasn't as hard as I thought, someone came and check the baby and turned him the right way and we pushed for about 2-3 hours until I was having horrible chest pain and wasn't able to push any more. One of the MANY doctors (by the time the baby came I had 12 doctors and nurses in my room with the 3 of us!) that was there finally said it was probably heart burn!! I'm pretty sure the whole room went, "ohhh" They gave me some meds to help it but it was a bit too late. It got to the point where they needed to get the baby out so out came the forceps. It was painful and exhausting and after 37 hours of labor out came our sweet Wilson!
Since he had some problems before I didn't get to have him on my chest while they cleaned him and didn't get to see him for very long before they took him to the nursery.
He had quite the cone head by the time he came out!
Our Wilson Bradley Curnow
Born on July 17, 2014 at 11:38 am
6 lbs 12 oz and 19 in
As soon as they pulled him out I was bawling, it really was the most amazing experience I've yet to have and the joy and love I felt when I saw him was indescribable.
At this point I got to hold him for a few minutes before they took him to the nursery with Brad.
He had the BIGGEST feet! Haha
Daddy and Wilson bonding at the nursery.
Chilling in our recovery room!
He had SO much dark hair like his momma did when she was born!
He was the tiniest little thing, it was so fun to just look at his tiny body.
Getting ready to take him home, Wilson looked even smaller in Brad's arms.
Brad and I have been so blessed with a happy healthy baby boy and are so grateful to those that made this experience so easy and great. He is lucky to have such great family to love and support him!
